Audubon CenterAudubon Sharon has partnered with Torrington High School to engage students in hands-on conservation. Working with our Caterpillars throughout their life cycle and to propagate the native plants and those caterpillars feed on from seeds and cutting and prepare them for planting.
This project supports the Audubon Plants for birds imitative, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about the role native plants play in healthy ecosystems. Populations of native plants, and the insects that depend on them. are decreasing in our landscapes mainly due to urbanization and loss of habitat. This poses a critical threat to the birds and other wildlife that rely on native plants and insects for food. Our plants and birds initiative fosters community awareness and participation in raising native plant gardens in developed landscapes because urban areas expand, city parks, schoolyards, and backyards are becoming increasingly critical to protecting local wildlife. |
